tuluum's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- \"Scattered Among The Nations\" (press release) "Scattered Among the Nations" Portrays Exotic Congregations Including Zimbabwe, India and Peru at the Center for Jewish History New York, NY - January 28, 2003 -- The Center for Jewish History and the American Sephardi Federation, have announced plans to showcase photographs and interviews of unknown Jewish communities on Wednesday, February 5th 2003. The exhibit will begin with an open reception for the press at 6:30 p.m. in the Constantiner Gallery at the Center for Jewish History, 15 West 16th Street, New York, New York. Exhibits will include the Inca Jews of Peru, the Benei Menashe tribe in India, Zimbabwe's Shona Jews and the Jewish village of Krasnaya Sloboda in Azerbaijan. Said Program Curator of the Center for Jewish History, Natalia Indrimi, "In this exhibit, Bryan Schwartz has vividly captured an unfamiliar world of Inca Jews, Zimbabwe Shabbats and Sub-Saharan Jewish choirs." The exhibit illustrates the difficulties that these groups have faced in their impassioned efforts to study, practice and observe Judaism. The photographs of "Scattered Among the Nations: A Photographic Record of Jewish Communities Around the World" is the work of Bryan Schwartz with contributions by journalist Jay Sand and photographer Sandy Carter. Mr. Schwartz is a world traveled speaker, writer and photographer who has lived and prayed with Jewish communities in 26 countries and more than 100 towns and villages during the past ten years. The exhibition will run through May 1, 2003 at the Center for Jewish History. Admission to the exhibit is free of charge.
